NW OKC Library Opens Doors May 2012

Many on the North West side of the city anticipate the opening of Oklahoma’s latest expansion, the NW Library located on the SE corner of 122nd and MacArthur Boulevard. The modern building will house nearly 156,000 books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs and over 60 available computer to the surrounding community.
The new library will be 35,000 square feet, showcasing unique structures such as the derricks rising from its roof, a tribute to Oklahoma’s oil history as well as an open glass facade with beautiful bermed landscaping as well as outside areas for adult and children. The Oklahoma Metro Library System also boasts that the new sustainability features will allow the NW Metro Library to be one of the first Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified libraries Oklahoma.
This new location, nestled between many neighborhood subdivisions, will be a great educational and community asset to the NW area with Putnam City North High School only one block west of the location, Hefner Middle school 2.5 miles south and numerous elementary schools like Wiley Post and Will Rogers within minutes of driving.
In addition, the MLS states: “The library will serve as a hub of the community of northwest Oklahoma City. Its accessible location will allow it to host community group meetings, clubs, study groups, programming for adults and children, as well as providing a collection of over 156,000 items and access to public computers and WiFi.”
